Founded in 1908 BRC Reinforcement is the UK’s largest supplier of steel reinforcement and associated products for concrete.

Power Efficient Solutions Ltd were engaged to offer recommendations to reduce energy costs at their site in Newport, Gwent, which included a detailed site survey and analysis of the incoming supply.  From this we recommended the introduction of Power Factor Correction to improve their Power Factor from a pre-contract 0.71 to 0.97.

The introduction of PFC would not only significantly improve electrical efficiency but would remove the ‘reactive charges’ being attracted by their energy supplier for operating with a poor Power Factor.  The installation was carried out during normal working hours without any disruption to their normal operations.

The improved Power Factor also significantly reduced current draw on the main incoming electrical supply, freeing up more capacity and will have a beneficial effect on the motors utilised in their manufacturing processes, improving reliability and reducing future maintenance costs.
